Foods for Heart Health

Everyday we make choices on what we choose to fill our plates with to fuel our bodies. Someone’s diet can be a key deciding factor on the health and wellness of one’s heart.

Heart disease still accounts for a large portion of deaths among adults in the U.S. so it is extremely important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and that includes the foods you choose to consume. Some foods are especially beneficial to maintaining the well-being of your vital organ.

When making heart-healthy meals for yourself, some things to include are foods such as whole grains. Whole grains have a lot of fiber, and this fiber helps to lower your cholesterol. Healthy fats are also important, but one must know the difference between healthy and unhealthy fats. Some healthy fats include olive oil, avocado, salmon, and nuts such as walnuts. Berries are also extremely beneficial to heart health because they are rich in antioxidants which helps fight inflammation in the heart. If you’re craving something for dessert, reaching for dark chocolate is an excellent choice. Just like berries, dark chocolate is extremely rich in antioxidants, as well as flavonoids, which lowers your risk for heart disease.

Also, remember to incorporate loads and loads of vegetables. Although this is something that should happen regardless, incorporating vegetables is extremely important to maintaining your heart health.

A healthy diet, mixed with a healthy amount of exercise and movement, is proven to lower your risk for heart disease, so it’s extremely important to try and be conscious of the choices you are making in your day to day diet.
